Program Description

Event Details

Come show off your artistic ability at our first ever Chalk Festival right here in Dykshoorn Park! Artists of ALL abilities and experience level are encouraged to register, but please carefully read through the regulations below prior to registering for your spot. Families with young children are also encouraged to participate, but should register as a family unit for a single square.

Working hours include:
- July 17th: 7am-7:00pm (must be finished for the day prior to the evening Bandshell concert)
- July 18th: 7am-5:00pm (art must be complete prior to the serving of Burgers and Brats)

We welcome all registrants and look forward to hearing from you.

  • Artist working hours are 7am-7pm on Monday, and 7am-5pm on Tuesday.

  • Artist must complete their assigned square by closing of the festival at 5pm on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

  • Each artist will be assigned a sidewalk square roughly 8x8ft in size, though due to the curvy nature of the park paths, some spaces fluctuate in size and shape. If you have a specific design in mind and are concerned about having the right fit, please email mschaff@mortonmandanlibrary.org, and we can get you detailed dimensions.

  • The entire artist space must be utilized as much as possible. There should be a minimal amount of pavement showing in your square except where it is a part of the artwork.

  • Families with young children are encouraged to participate, but should register as a family unit for a single square.

  • Artwork must be appropriate for all viewers – family friendly.

  • No nudity or political statements will be accepted.

  • Artwork will contain no words or symbols intended as advertising or promotion.

  • Artwork may not violate any copyright laws.

  • No writing of anything is allowed outside your square. The festival will provide and install an information poster stating your name, home city and sponsor name (if applicable).

  • Only non-toxic soft pastels or standard sidewalk chalk may be used. Use of any other material is forbidden (i.e. oil pastels, acrylic, gouache, markers, any sort of sealants, etc.).

  • Artists should expect to provide their own materials, but sidewalk chalk will be made available (while supplies last) between 4:30-7:00pm on Monday, and 1:30-4:30pm on Tuesday.
