Program Description

Event Details

Adopt one of our eight planters and fill it with beautiful (or tasty) plants this summer! We'll provide the dirt, and library staff will take care of the daily watering, all we need from you is the plants and whatever other upkeep you are willing to give your little beauties.

Each adopted planter will have a little sign showcasing the family, group of friends, club, or organization who has adopted the planter, so you can show off your skills!

Here are the Regulations:

  • Other than the initial cost of the plants, this is completely Free! This isn't a monetary sponsorship, just one of time and love.
  • All plants should be planted between May 22nd and June 2nd so that they have all summer to flourish.
  • You can plant whatever you want, from flowers to veggies to herbs to ferns to whatever. We just have a few asks for safety concerns:
    1. To protect our environment, do not plant anything that is invasive to our growing zone, in case they would spread. (see NDSU's Guide to Noxious and Troublesome Weeds as a starting point)
    2. To protect our library, do not plant anything illegal on public property, such as tobacco or cannabis.
  • The library reserves the right to remove any plants that violate the above regulations without warning. Additionally, the library cannot give any guarantees for protecting the plants from damage by vandalism, animals, or extreme weather.

Planter Specifics:

  • All planters are the same dimensions of 56 in x 12 in, with about 18 in of soil (the soil does not go all the way to the bottom of the planter).
  • All planters are around the parking lot side of the building, and as such they are SW facing with Full Sun. (When choosing plants, keep in mind that based on our experience last year, the concrete will warm up quite a bit in the sun. Library staff will do our best to water once or twice a day, depending on the heat, but it's a good idea to choose drought-resistant plants.)

Good Luck and Happy Planting!
